UPG SPSEA Leadership

President

I am Eli Imbrogno and I am the SPSEA Chapter President of University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. SPSEA Teaches you many things that you can carry out for the rest of your life, but if there is one thing that I have learned beyond the obvious, it is that SPSEA teaches you family.

I started my education at St. Vincent as a Biology major. After discovering that science wasn’t for me, I transferred to UPG to pursue an education in Secondary Education and History. Transitioning from one school to another is very difficult, especially as a commuter. I did not know anyone at the school and this made the first couple weeks tough, until SPSEA stepped in! I started going to meetings, events, and workshops, and the next thing you know I started enjoying school much more. Most of my friends are in SPSEA, and I have no one else to thank but the club. That is why I decided to run for President of the club, so that I could influence other group members to do the same for incoming transfers, freshmen, or overall students on campus!

Vice President

My name is Zachary Simms and I am the SPSEA Vice President at Pitt-Greensburg. I am a senior in the Early Childhood Education program as well. I have been actively involved with SPSEA since my sophomore year and it was the best decision I ever made. Being a member and officer has given me confidence, leadership, and experience needed to prepare me for my future as a teacher.

Treasurer

My name is Michelle Etling and I am a junior at Pitt-Greensburg studying Secondary Education and English Writing with a minor in Psychology.  I am currently the Treasurer and an active member of our chapter's SPSEA club. The workshops, additional field experience, and events that our SPSEA club produces really helps benefit each individual member.  Personally, I have grown as a teacher because of these aspects along with the wonderful students and faculty that are involved.  For me, this club and the Education Department is my second home and I love it so much. We're all just one big, happy family and I am incredibly grateful for every experience, student, and faculty member that I've encountered during my time at the university.

Secretary

My name is Shannon Lieu and I am the secretary for the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg's chapter of SPSEA. I am currently a junior in the  early childhood education program and also receiving a certificate in behavior analysis and a psychology minor. SPSEA is very important to me because it helps me with professional development. SPSEA holds many workshops that I find beneficial to my future teaching.  SPSEA has also given me the opportunity to met some of my very best friends.

Faculty Advisor

Dr. Melissa Marks is honored to co-advise such an incredible SPSEA chapter. In her 13th year as an adviser, Dr. Marks is thrilled by the growth of the chapter and the quality of the programs her students implement. She feels really lucky to be part of such a great organization and be surrounded by such great people -- and is delighted she gets to hang out with them at the Annual Conference again this year.

Faculty Advisor

Dr. Jeanne Burth is honored to co-advise the UPG chapter of SPSEA. In her sixth year at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, Dr. Burth is a retired teacher and principal from Western PA.
